It's June 2013 and Mr W is sitting on the decking in the back garden with his guitar. He's playing a newly composed Christmas song. Even with the hot summer sun shining off his new shades, and the ice melting in their drinks, Mrs. W suggests to Mr W that he puts out a "winter warmer" EP. The new song (and his other winter song), can sit alongside the tracks they couldn't fit on NEW EVERYTHING. So here it is 'MORE' NEW EVERYTHING. Goin' Away is one of Brooks' most requested "lost love" songs. It's real country. The fella loses his woman and a dog gets mentioned. On this version Sam Sweeney adds some sublime fiddle. Joanna: What's not to like about this one! A melodic little soundtrack Brooks wrote overlooking the Mediterranean Sea while they were on honeymoon in Sperlonga in Italy. Winter Moon II: An oft-requested Brooks song about the extraordinary light of the winter moon from a room in Utah - and a gathering storm on the distant horizon. Shakin' These Christmas Blues: An instant classic! Sometimes those you love are far away and even though everyone and everything around you is shouting 'Party-party! You may feel a bit differently. Teach Me (album version): A band version of one of Brooks' best love songs. He says he wrote this one as a result of hearing Mrs. W sing along-endlessly-to BBC Radio 2. Tippers: A rootsy Brooks instrumental inspired by tales of a chestnut horse and a girl that rode him bareback in an apple orchard, featuring Rowan Rheingans on old-timey banjo. Are You Tired of Me My Darling: Brooks credits Boston radio legend Dick Pleasants for introducing him to some great music during the years he lived in New England. Here's one from Dick's play-list that Brooks has been singing for nearly 20 years...finally recorded. So sit back and enjoy. Winter will soon be here. It's getting' cold! "This is surely Brooks' most accomplished solo collection yet" Maverick magazine. "...a typically classy mix of blues, raggy Americana and healthy new originals...absolutely beyond criticism!" fRoots.back to top
