By the 1970s, the Newport Jazz Festival had long since left it's original stomping ground and set up shop in New York City, in 1974 at the venerable Carnegie Hall. Stan Kenton's was one of the few remaining touring orchestras, and played the festival on a regular basis, always to enthusiastic audiences, who appreciated Stan was moving with the times and not simply repeating past achievments. This CD features music from Stan's fourth decade as a band leader. The elder statesman of progressive jazz is still captain of a very fine orchestra, playing advanced music of an un compromising nature that will still find a receptive audience well into the next century
