Sloan, “Pretty Together,” RCA Records. I noticed our newest columnist Dave Piel had some nice things to say about Sloan, and then along came this used copy of their 2001 release. Unfortunately, I’m not sure where this one stands in Daav’s Sloan hierarchy, but it sounds pretty good to me. Imagine if Redd Kross had never been punk, but still loved those 70s rock bands, and had a guy with Marshall Crenshaw’s melodic sense working in the band. That’s a start, but Sloan seems more varied than that. At any rate, these are great rock songs, big, boisterous, melodic, catchy, and punchy. I want to hear more Sloan.
