  Listen Up! 5/21/03 Listen Up!

Wednesday, May 21

The Who, ďMy Generation,Ē MCA Records. The Whoís debut album has five terrific songs, and a lot of filler. This new expanded version adds one more brilliant song, and even more filler. The second disc is all sorts of rarities, some fun covers of contemporary (for 1965) ríníb and oddities like instrumental versions, acappella versions, and mono versions of great material. Yeah, I have to own this, but I doubt Iíll want to play it much. The remastering is magnificent, making all this music sound like it deserves its place in the rockíníroll history books.

Various Artists, ďA Taste of Tex Mex,Ē Music Club. Here we have a fun little compilation of 18 polkas and waltzes in the Tex-Mex style, with those accordions dropping delicious fills all over the place, and the vocalists harmonizing sweetly. I donít know that I can tell one song from another a lot of the time, except as the rhythms switch somewhat, but I do find this quite pleasant.
