Uncle Tupelo, “March 16-20, 1992,” Columbia Legacy. I gotta tell you, I don’t remember liking this record much when it came out, but it sure sounds pretty good right now. Uncle Tupelo stripped themselves down to acoustic guitars, and sang a bunch of traditional songs. Jay Farrar came into his beautiful voice, and this record sounds downright powerful today. Young guys discovering their place in the legacy.

The Flaming Sideburns, “Sky Pilots,” Jetset Records. Stupid band name. Great band. These guys do the two guitars rock’n’roll band thing, and they do it well. Remind me a lot of Roky Erickson’s band of the early 80s, but without the monster movie references. Great riffs, big hooks, slashing guitars, propulsive beats, aggressive vocals. Fun stuff.
