The Bangles, “Doll Revolution,” Down Kiddie Records. They’re back and as good as they ever were. I don’t know why this record isn’t out in the U.S. yet, but the import reveals a potential masterpiece. The lead song is an Elvis Costello cut from last year’s “When I Was Cruel,” a song he wrote specifically for Susanna Hoffs to sing. There’s also a new version of Vicki Peterson’s beautiful “The Rain Song” (performed previously by her other band, the Continental Drifters, and also apparently covered on the new Hootie and the Blowfish record). The new songs are often brilliant. The vocals are stunning. I’ve got to play this a million times, I think.
