Mink DeVille, “Le chat Bleu Expanded Edition,” Raven Records. Now this is the way to do a reissue. Remaster the original album so it sounds way better than it ever did, then add eight rare live cuts from the same period. Willy DeVille never got the respect he deserved – heck, I never listened to him back in his late 70s, early 80s prime. But, he could sing better than just about any of his New York peers, he had a great love and respect for classic pop song structures of the early 60s, and he led a hot band. This album features a lot of songwriting collaborations with the great Doc Pomus, too. DeVille really slots more along the lines of Springsteen or Southside Johnny than the CBGBs and Max’s acts with which he was generally associated.
